For those of you who have been with me awhile, you have heard extensively about the many addictions I have fought over the years. When the opportunity arose for me to do a 31-day series via The Nester, the first subject that came to mind was food addiction.
This is the one dependency I have been allowed to keep as I have told myself it doesn’t hurt anyone else in my life. However, the time has come to face the facts, it does hurt the people I love.
Because of my food issues, I am a terrible influence on my kids. They end up eating the same junk I do and we get very little exercise due to the exhaustion lack of good nutrition causes. I will certainly not live as long as I should or with the quality of life I deserve if I continue to binge on the fried, sugary, and highly processed foods that make up my entire daily intake.
I plan to dive much deeper into the reasons for cutting out these types of foods over the next 31 days so please join me on this journey…
Please keep coming back to support me this month and I know you will gain something in this process as well. Whether you are a food addict or not, we can all use some help in eating healthier.
If you are not already a subscriber, you may join our community here and never miss a day of this exciting, nerve wracking, and life changing adventure!
I will post every weekday something related to issues with food addiction and how to live a healthier lifestyle. Taking the weekends off from writing (but not my food plan), I will give updates every Monday as to how I am surviving, including wins and losses for the week.
As the days progress, the links below will go live and the list will grow.
Thank you so much for your support!
If you are new here, welcome and please feel free to look around and stay a while. I hope you find some encouragement for whatever you may be struggling with today.

Tonya
As a fellow food addict, I’m looking forward to your series 🙂
Candace
Admitting it is definitely the first step :)! I’m so glad to have you here Tonya. Let me know if I can support you in any way!
Jerimi
Oh man, this is a BIG one. My husband and I have been off sugar (including the “natural” ones like honey and maple syrup), wheat, corn, grains, and soy for two years. Two years. I STILL catch my brain trying to convince me that one little slice of bread won’t hurt. In fact, just recently I’ve had the urge to sneak it. UGH. Does the addiction behavior ever go away? I’m really looking forward to your series. Thanks so much for sharing it.
Candace
Two years!! Wow, I am so impressed Jerimi! It sounds like I could learn a lot from you. So glad you are planning to join the series. To answer your question, I think addictive behavior stays around in some form or another. I seem to have just swapped my addictions over the years. I’m hoping once I get food under control, I will find a healthy addiction, like exercise :)!
christa sterken
There is a topic I need to read about!!! I never hear anyone discuss it, thank you!
Candace
You are welcome Christa! It is a topic people seem to shy away from, probably from shame and embarrassment. If you have a chance to check out some of my other posts, you will see I am very open about all of my issues. Unfortunately, there are many. I’m excited about committing to this one for 31 days! Thanks for reading along with me!
Judith
I see a lot on Pinterest and women’s magazines about weight-loss, but this is the first time I have seen the underlying root problem brought up. I look forward to your posts! Thank you for braving this topic and sharing your journey.
Candace
Thank you Judith! I agree, the “root problem” of addiction must be addressed before we can see true, lasting results. So glad to have you following along with me!
DogsMom
I will be following along. I may not get to visit daily but I will get through all 31 posts!
Candace
I’m so glad to have you here! You can come back to this page anytime to catch up. If it is easier, the posts can be delivered to your email by subscribing. Thanks for joining me!

Oh my goodness, i’d love to see this too. I just recently lost 275lbs so yes I know a thing or two about food addiction. Though i’ve lost a significant amount of weight the struggle continues. Cant wait to hear your thoughts.
Veronica Spriggs
posting again so i could get notified of new posts
Candace
Your transformation is amazing Veronica! I am so impressed. I hear you about the continued struggle. As food addicts, I don’t think the struggle ever ends. It just seems to be a little more under control at times. This 31 days series ended October 31st. Feel free to go through all the links above to catch up. I have been struggling again which I have shared in recent posts. So glad to have you along on the journey. I can’t wait to read more about you as well!
Veronica Spriggs
thanks Candace I am going thru a tough time right now and it isn’t even the holidays and crazy enough I won the beachbody challenge and am on my to California the beginning of dec. and people think oh you should be happy which of course i am but that doesn’t mean the struggle isn’t there.
So glad i found this I will go through each post and hopefully it can help me regain some strength. and thank you for courage to post it as i know that in itself is not easy.
Candace
I feel your pain! Maintenance has always been worse for me than the weight loss part. That is why I always gain it back I guess! Have a safe trip. I love California! Be strong and don’t forget it is a lifetime journey not a temporary solution!
Lauren of Hey Hey Designs did my cartoon Candace :). I think she did awesome too!
Veronica Spriggs
oh and i meant to say whoever did your avie did a bang up job it looks just like you!
Caroline
Thank you for this. I have been needing something like this to help me realize I am not the only women who struggles with addiction to food and binging. It’s hard but I know if I take it day by day overcoming a food addiction is absolutely possible. God bless:)
Candace
Hi Caroline, You are definitely not the only one! I just started an online study called Made to Crave yesterday about craving God instead of food (or any other obsession). There are over 40,000 women signed up! Most of them have food addiction issues. I’ll be posting once a week about it. If you are interested, it is through Proverbs 31 Ministries. You just need the book, the study is free. I’m so glad to have you here :).
Kimberly
Food has always been my comfort. I but I’m so unhappy with my weight. I know I have a food addiction and iv tried different ways to stop but it isn’t helping. I need to control my addiction but how?
Candace
I feel your pain, Kimberly. There is no easy answer. This is by far the toughest addiction I’ve tried to conquer. There are some great resources on the Food Addicts Anonymous website. If you go to the food plan link above, there are links in that post to take you there.
Food has always been my comfort as well. I’m learning to turn to God more and quit idolizing and obsessing over food. But I still have many issues in this area. I haven’t updated the Turning to Food series all summer. I hope to start it back next month. Don’t give up!
