As a life long food addict, fasting is not something I ever really considered. In more recent years, after becoming a Christian, I’m always searching for ways to grow in my faith and relationship with God. Last year sparked an interest for me with fasting and I’ve been obsessed with researching this fascinating topic ever since.
The benefits reach far and wide, but I want to share 3 truly life-changing reasons we should begin using fasting in our spiritual walk. Please note: I’m not a medical professional. You may need to check with your doctor before starting any type of fast.
Join me at ArabahJoy.com to learn about these invaluable benefits! I’m honored and excited to announce I will be contributing to her beautiful, inspiring site once a month starting today.
If you are new here, stop back by and learn more about my food addiction story in An Addict’s Journey or you may want to check out some of the other monthly updates in the Turning to Food series.

Hey, it may not have three words in the title but it does have THREE in the title. 🙂 I’m always glad for you to link up at #ThreeWordWednesday, friend! xoxo
Candace
That really shows my crazy perfectionism that I was worried about that :). It’s always a pleasure, my friend!
Mary Geisen
Wow! You are embracing intermittent fasting and I love your zeal toward its benefits. I am glad you are adding the spiritual component because I know ti will help you in your journey. Thank you for sharing the benefits over at Arabah Joy’s place and for doing your homework in really digging deep for these benefits. I am rooting for you friend because I know with God on your side you can do anything.
Candace
Thanks for the encouragement, Mary! It’s still a struggle. Quite honestly, I research more than I implement, so I’m working on that :). I’m excited about the continued journey though. So thankful to have you on it with me.
Linda Stoll

I’m grateful you’re in my life …
Candace
I’m so grateful for you too, Linda! I seem to be really inconsistent around here lately. It’s always so wonderful to see you pop in here, my friend.

Candice: I have been fasting for almost 6 months and it has changed how I view food. I avoided it for so long because I believed it would trigger my food addiction. i follow a protocol where I fast for 16 hours and then eat for 8. I am not as hungry the weight has left me and I don’t think about food as much. I have also used those protocol with some clients who were binging and it really helped. Just thought I would share.
Candace
Thanks so much for sharing that awesome tip, Maureen! I love the idea of that fasting rotation. I may have to try that for a little kickstart :).
Trudy
Such very convincing reasons, Candace. I’m especially drawn by #1. I’d love to hear more as to how it has personally changed your life. Blessings and hugs to you!
Candace
Hi, Trudy! Yes, #1 is huge for me too. I’ve been able to stay completely away from sugar over the past couple of weeks, even through my daughter’s birthday oreo ice cream cake! I truly believe from changing my mindset to show God He’s worth more to me than food has changed everything. Fasting is a work in progress for me. I still struggle with emotional craziness when I don’t have any food :).

Hopping over to read all about it.
This is encouraging especially for those who don’t think it’s necessary to fast.

Wonderful post – I left a more detailed comment on your guest post.

Wishing you a lovely day.

Sonya
I’m heading over to read your post 🙂
Candace
I’m so with you on the hanger, Sonya. I still struggle with that, but it’s getting a little better with time. The intermittent fasting is much easier for me. It allows a 500 calorie meal sometime in the day. I usually try to eat around lunch, skipping breakfast and dinner. There is a lot of free information online about it. If you have any questions, I would be glad to try to answer them for you. Let me know how it goes if you try it! {This is in response to your comment there but I couldn’t get it to go through. I was at my limit for comments in moderation on her site :)}
