Two years ago, I sat in a therapist’s office desperate for help with my massive anxiety issue. We worked together on choosing some of the most pressing matters to deal with first.
One overwhelming issue in my life was my son’s recent diagnosis of epilepsy and my concern about the medication being prescribed for it. The therapist offered an interesting technique known as tapping, or Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT). She led me through tapping on various points of my body and I repeated her words related to my fears.
It was truly amazing. I left her office feeling an incredible sense of relief determined to learn more about this new therapy. Later that night, I registered for an online conference, the 2013 Tapping World Summit.
I listened to all of the speakers, each helping me tremendously. I even bought a package with all of the sessions and corresponding workbooks.
Sadly, as I so often do in my self-sabotaging moments, I quit using EFT and soon after, dumped my therapist…
Months later the same guy who started the Tapping World Summits, Nick Ortner, came out with a book. I bought The Tapping Solution immediately, even preordering it.
Upon arrival, it went from my mailbox to my giant to be read pile, where it sat until last week. In an effort to read through part of that constantly growing pile this year, I decided to finally pick it up. I’m beyond thrilled I did.
Check out the number of dog-eared pages (sorry, I couldn’t resist including my little sweater wearing puppy):
I have never turned over that many pages in any book. Almost every corner is folded.
Nick describes EFT as “a combination of ancient Chinese acupressure and modern psychology.” He starts out with the history of tapping and shares some scientific basis I found pretty interesting.
The book then goes into all the different areas tapping could help. Some of my favorite chapters are:
- Relieving Anxiety, Feelings of Being Overwhelmed, and Stress — it’s actually serving both my anxiety and depression
- Overcoming Your Resistance to Change — this is greatly assisting me with those self-sabotaging behaviors I shared earlier.
- Tapping Through Your Past — very helpful with my daddy issues and the continued work on forgiving my mother
- Losing Weight and Letting Go of Fear, Guilt, and Shame Around Food — desperately needed thanks to my monstrous food addiction
- Creating Love and Healthy Relationships — helping not only with current relationships, but also with heartbreaks of the past
Believe it or not, there are many more topics including making money, eliminating phobias, and releasing physical pain. I found something applicable to my life in every chapter. I have a lot of issues…
The book has links to extended EFT scripts from each chapter and free audio tapping sessions. You can also get the first 2 chapters and a stress relief audio I’m now using daily on Nick’s website, TheTappingSolution.com. Both are free on the main page by entering your email address. I’m assuming it signs you up for his mailing list.
You can learn more about how and where to tap, along with a basic anxiety sequence here.
I’m not an affiliate for this company and this is not a paid review. I just really wanted to share this exciting therapy with you. I also plan to read Nick’s sister, Jessica Ortner’s book, The Tapping Solution for Weight Loss and Body Confidence, which happens to be already purchased and waiting in my frighteningly large to be read pile.
If you would like to purchase either book, they can be found here:
Please note: I’m not a medical professional. This is just my story and experience with tapping.
If you have time today, check out the rest of my to be read pile for 2015:
Judith
I enjoyed your post and am so glad that you found a solution for your anxiety issues. You did a thorough job sharing about this method and book. I hope it will help any who need it. Thanks for sharing today.
Candace
Thanks so much, Judith. I hope it helps many people. I’m still shocked at what quick and easy relief can be found with such a simple method.
Sonya
Hey Candace, this sounds like a must read. I felt stressed out a lot last year. This year I’ve been doing better but I still want to read this book.
Candace
It is awesome, Sonya! I spent way too much time last year stressed out too, my friend. Check out the website. There are a lot of free resources there to get started.
Jen
I have never heard of tapping before! Wow, there is so much awesome stuff in the world! Thanks for sharing Candace. BTW-Your puppy is adorable! I think you should include puppy pictures quite frequently 🙂
Candace
My little dog is hilarious, Jen. He loves his sweaters :). There are some pretty great therapies out there that haven’t been brought to light yet. Tapping has been around a while. I’m thankful to have found it!
Mrs. AOK
I love this! I was just texting (I know what happened to talking) with a friend of mine, she asked how I coped with anxiety, and I listed the ways, tapping my wrist was on the list.
I heard someone say they did that before and it stuck with me. I’ve used pressure point wrist bands in the past.
The sweater shot of your precious puppy was much appreciated.
XOXO
Candace
I’ve been wanting to check out those pressure point wrist bands. I think my daughter could use them too. Unfortunately, she inherited my anxiety issues. Glad you enjoyed seeing my puppy as I’m still in love with that adorable mini bulldog of yours :). XO!
Mindy
Your dressed up puppy is so cute! I have never heard of tapping but will check it out – love hearing about natural remedies. I have a family member with anxiety issues and have struggled with it a bit myself. Thanks for sharing with us : )
Candace
Anxiety can be so overwhelming, Mindy. It just stops everything else for me at times. I love natural remedies as well. This is helping me tremendously. Let me know if you have any questions about it. I’m not an expert but can hopefully help in some areas. My puppy is a little cranky right now because his sweater is dirty and I had to take it away from him :). I’m surprised how much he loves it!
Sandy H
Hi! I have heard of tapping for weightloss but never knew it could be used for other things. Sounds like I should read this book too. Oh, and your puppy is adorable. Have a blessed day!
Candace
Hi Sandy! I’m looking forward to reading the Tapping for Weight Loss book too. This one went into that subject but the other book is much more focused. I wanted to read this one first to get the overall feel of it and cover more of my many issues :). Blessings to you, my friend!
Create With Joy
Thanks so much, Candace, for sharing your experience and review with us at the Book Nook at Create With Joy (and for making us smile with your adorable doggie!)
I have heard about tapping but you’re the first person I know to actually do it. I am glad to hear that it works and that your experience with it has been so positive!
Candace
It has been wonderful! I’m really excited to add this to my list of therapeutic tools :).
Thank you for your fun new book linkup! I love your new button and will add it to my link party page as soon as I get the email with the Book Nook’s new posting schedule. I’m looking forward to finding some new recommendations for my reading list!
Joy Weese Moll (@joyweesemoll)
I’m glad you found something that worked so well for you!
Candace
Thanks, Joy! I’m amazed at how easy it is. I hope more people can find relief with this technique. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem to be very well known yet.
Amber
Thanks so much for linking up with us at Best of the Blogosphere! This is fascinating. My old therapist actually wanted to try this (I saw her for another form of biofeedback), but we never got around to it. I am like you and tend to move on to the next thing. I may check this book out, as I have a lot of stressors and anxiety issues as well. I would love for you to link up with us again tomorrow! 🙂
Candace
It has been so helpful, Amber! I hope you find some relief with it. Let me know if you have any questions about the technique. I can try to help.
Thanks for the linkup! I’m looking forward to joining you again today :).
