Like so many of us, I have literally thousands of books collecting dust around my house, anxiously awaiting me. I’m much better at buying books than actually sitting down to read them.
For this reason, I’m incredibly excited about a challenge I found this morning through Lisa notes. We choose 12 books in our TBR (to be read) piles, along with 2 alternates, to finally finish this year. You can find all the details at the host’s site, RoofBeamReader.com, including how to linkup your own list.
The books must have been on your bookshelf for at least one full year, with a publication date of 2013 or earlier. Even with this rule, I can’t tell you how difficult it was picking out only 14 books. Between my many bookshelves and my kindle, I’m overwhelmed with great choices.
All health related book reviews will also be linked to The Healthy Lifestyle Books Reading Challenge 2015. If you are reading anything related to health this year, whether it’s physical, mental, emotional, or spiritual, please join in by adding your reviews.
{Update: I decided to swap out a couple of books, including adding more recently published ones. Because of this, I’m no longer participating in the Roof Beam Reader challenge. Unfortunately, I only have enough time to read 1-2 books a month, so I wanted to be able to choose current ones as well. Regardless, I will continue to update the links below with my book choice each month.}
Here is my list for 2015. A new link will go live every month with a review of each book.
January: The Tapping Solution: A Revolutionary System for Stress-Free Living by Nick Ortner (2103) finished 1/10
February: The Daniel Plan: 40 Days to a Healthier Life by Rick Warren, Daniel Amen, and Mark Hyman (2013) finished 2/15
March: Bird by Bird: Some Instructions on Writing and Life by Anne Lamott (1994) finished 3/14
April: Restless: Because You Were Made For More by Jennie Allen (2013) finished 4/13
May: What Happens When Women Walk in Faith by Lysa TerKeurst (2005) finished 5/15
June: Why We Write by Meredith Maran (2013) finished 6/28
July: The Mended Heart by Suzanne Eller (2014) finished 7/23
August: A Hunger For God by John Piper (2013) finished 8/25
September: The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up by Marie Kondo (2014)
October: Dance With Jesus: From Grief to Grace by Susan B. Mead (2015) finished 10/26
November: Platform: Get Noticed in a Noisy World by Michael Hyatt (2012)
December: Women Living Well: Finding Joy in God, Your Man, Your Kids, and Your Home by Courtney Joseph (2013)
{End of Year Assessment: It looks like I fell a little short towards the end of the year. The September, November, and December books will have to be put on a future list. Thanks for following along this year! Please check out my TBR Pile for 2016 and join me again.}
Kristin Hill Taylor
What a great list! I LOVED “Restless” when I read it last year. I want to read “Kisses for Katie” and “Bird by Bird” too.
Candace
I’m so excited to finally get to some of these books I’ve had on my shelf forever, Kristin. Bird by Bird is on next month’s agenda, so I’m starting it today. I actually read part of it years ago but never finished. I’m really bad about starting too many books at once and not finishing any. This list is really helping me to just go one by one which is incredibly helpful. Restless is next, so I’m thrilled to hear how much you liked it!
LuAnn Braley
What? Two RC’s I MISSED? How is /that/ possible? *LOL*
Candace
That is crazy, LuAnn! I never imagined I would be in a reading challenge you didn’t know about :). You’re my reading role model!
Ping
Hi! I’m love reading other people’s book lists and to see if there’s any interesting books out there. Bird by Bird is what I’ll put on my lists this year. Although I’m not thinking about writing a book myself but I love to read it. Thanks for the list and will be coming back to check it out often:)
Candace
I love to see other people’s lists too, Ping. I’m obsessed with books. This challenge has really helped me finally finish some. I get so overwhelmed with all the books I want to read, then I don’t end up finishing any :). Bird by Bird is great. She has some really funny stories about herself weaved in.
Loresa
I so enjoy reading your posts Candace. Praying for you on your journey to good health. I’m on it too. We share some of the same battles. I checked out your book section loved it. Bird by Bird is on my wish list as well as some others. I just finished the same Bible Study WIF and I think I’m in the death phase but I’m confused. I love P31 and the wonderful ladies Lysa has on her team. Love Lysa. Stay strong, keep the faith and keep on keeping on Candace.
Candace
Thank you so much for your sweet encouragement, Loresa! Praying for your journey as well. The road to good health is a difficult one. I’m glad to have you traveling it with me, although I wish it wasn’t such a struggle for us.
I love the P31 ladies and studies too. They have added a great deal to my life. Bird by Bird is fantastic! I laughed through a lot of it. Anne Lamott is an amazing writer. I hope you get the opportunity to read it.
